This fall, Albertans will face several referendum questions, one of which seeks to determine if the provincial government should initiate the legal groundwork for a future binding vote on secession from Canada. Premier Smith explained that the referendum would ask citizens whether Alberta should continue as part of Canada or commence a formal separation process according to the Canadian constitution.
In response, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre reiterated his commitment to Canadian unity, advocating for policies aimed at bolstering Alberta’s economic landscape, especially within the oil and gas industry.
